Properly Lay Tiles!  As you can see, it is important that you should know how to properly lay tiles in order for you to have a quality and professional finish that you can truly be proud of.

It is very important that you should prepare the surfaces well enough to ensure even and stable tiling. Cleaning and smoothing out the surface is a very important step in laying tiles. Remove any wallpaper and clean the surface to be tiled thoroughly. Make sure that the surface you plan on laying the tiles is smooth and is free from any foreign objects.

Grouting is also a very important step in tiling. Try not to spread the grout quickly and unevenly as it will result in uneven tiling. Try doing it slowly and evenly with a squeegee. Also, if you distribute grout in a large area, the grout may dry off before you even lay the tile. If there is any excess grout after laying the tile, it is important that you should remove it immediately because once it hardens, it will be very hard to remove and will look very unattractive.

If you are laying tiles in your bathroom, it is important that you should get the right kind of adhesive. It is important that you should only use waterproof adhesives. If you use regular tile adhesives, even a well fitted tile will let water seep in and cause the adhesives to crack or crumble, which will cause the tiles to fall off.
Avoid Mistakes!  Although using battens is optional, it will be able to help you lay tiles in straight lines. If you are laying tiles in an exceptionally large area, try using battens as this will provide with assistance when laying tiles. Many people don't actually use this essential tool and ends up making mistakes in positioning the tiles.

If you made mistakes, try and fix it as soon as you can (preferably 6 to 12 hours after you finish laying the tiles). If you leave the mistake there after for more than 24 hours, it will be very difficult to remove as the grout will have hardened by this time.
